New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice will be at Bookwagon New and Used Books on Friday April 16, 2010 at 6pm. On Sunday April 18, he'll speak at First Presbyterian in Ashland for the 9:15a contemporary service, a community event to which all are invited. Rice is on tour with his fifth novel, The Moonlit Earth, following the blockbuster publication of Blind Fall published in 2008 by Simon and Schuster.

The Moonlit Earth by Christopher Rice, published in April 2010 by Simon and Schuster

The Moonlit Earth is an international thriller surrounding complex family relationships that echo the themes of Rice's earlier books - love, secrecy, trust and betrayal. Harriet Klausner rates The Moonlit Earth as a 5-star read and author Robert Crais says: "Christopher Rice shows his guns by weaving family secrets, breakneck plotting and true-to-life characters into a thriller of unusual depth. The Moonlit Earth is intense, moving and rich."

Blind Fall is a thriller that exposes the hypocrisy of the military's don't ask, don't tell policy and tests the friendships, loyalties and reason of John Houck who discovers that his fellow Marine and hero is gay. Rice writes the stories told by veterans of the Iraq war, telling their pain and anger and grief, writing with compassion and humility.

"Blind Fall is a tale of heroism and cowardice, a yearning search for redemption and acceptance, and a haunting portrayal of characters both gay and straight, Christopher Rice writes with a sharp eye and a full heart.

A Density of Souls, written at the age of 22, was Chris' first book. It's a powerful coming of age mystery that gained a prestigious Lambda Literary Award. It has marvelous themes of damnation, redemption, secrecy and destruction, courage all in that humid city New Orleans, with the snake of a river and rawness of the real city so close to the veneer of the Garden District. The pacing as the characters mature and emerge is so very personal.

Christopher Rice is the son of the late poet Stan Rice and the author Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire, and later Called Out of Darkness). He lives in Los Angeles and is a thoroughly nice person, who has enormous power in his writing.

Christopher Rice's visit to Ashland has been organized by the Ashland Mystery Readers Group and is sponsored by Friends of the Ashland Public Library, Bookwagon New and Used Books and Standing Stone Brewing Company. The event is free and open to the public.
