San Francisco author Zoe Ferraris will be at Bookwagon New and Used Books on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 6p. Bookwagon is at 1652 Ashland Street in Ashland, Oregon.
you read one book this year, it should be Zoe Ferraris’
City of Veils.
Written on the shifting sands of the Saudi desert,
you get an incredible perspective from behind the veil, in the
voices of those who center their soul in a place so far,
and so different, from here.
Finding Nouf was Ferraris' first crime fiction work featuring Nayir Sarqui and Katya Hijazi, published by Houghton Mifflin in 2008. Set in the Saudi port town of Jeddah, Finding Nouf quickly gained critical and popular acclaim. City of Veils followed in 2010, published by Little Brown. Her latest, Kingdom of Strangers will be released in June 2012.
American novelist Ferraris lived in Saudi Arabia with her then husband and his extended family of Saudi-Palestinian Bedouins in the wake of the first Gulf War. She renders a suspenseful mystery and a sobering portrait of the lives of Muslim women. -- Booklist.
Zoe Ferraris was interviewed in June 2010 by Publishers Weekly, where she talks about shariya law and how perceptions, views and culture are changing in contemporary Saudi Arabia, in part due to technology and the demographic shift of Saudi women, who are aging out of sexual prohibitions.
